Brenda F. Mealor, the owner of The Dancers Studio, has been serving the West Cobb area for the last 47 years. Brenda is pleased to bring her expertise and love of dance to the Kennesaw Parks and Rec program. Her teaching career began at her childhood studio in Columbus, GA. Upon marrying and moving to Cobb County in 1975, she joined Becky Jones School of Dance in Smryna, GA as assistant director for 12 years. Mrs. Brenda opened The Dancers Studio in Kennesaw next and is still bringing her love of dance to her students. She was privileged to have studied under some of the well known dance personalities, nationally and locally, that have made dance what it is today. Ruth Mitchell, Iris Hensley, Lynn Curtis, Gus Giordano, Frank Hatchet, Art Stone, and Jo Rowan just to name a few.
Layla Bodrogi is entering her 7th year as an instructor at the Dancers Studio. Layla is excited to be stepping into the role as the Performance Company director this season. Layla's training includes 16 years at The Dancers Studio, a company member under CiCi Kelly, and part of the Apprentice Company under Rachel Truit. She has also worked professionally dancing for Spike Lee, Nick Cannon, Nick Hagelin, Ansley Williams, and Sonni Mackenzi. She is very proud to have been the winner of the "Heart of Gold" award during her time competing, as part of The Dancers Studio Performance Company. This award gave her the opportunity to represent iDance4aCURE. Layla strives to instill empathy, responsibility, and passion into all of her dancers, while having fun learning!
Laura is a Cobb County native, and grew up dancing at The Dancers Studio from age 6-18. She was honored to be a member of the inaugural performance company at the studio, and in 2003, she was named the top soloist at Star Systems Talent Competition. Laura graduated from the University of Georgia in 2006 with a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, and performed with the Redcoat Band Flagline throughout her career across the Southeast and even in China!
Laura student-taught at The Dancers Studio for the 2002-2003 season, and then was on staff after college, at Becky Jones School of Dance. Laura returned to her home studio in 2014 and will be celebrating her 10th dance season this year as part of the Dancers Studio faculty. Laura is pleased to now have her daughter enjoying dance, as a member of the Performance Company.
Sarah is thrilled to return to the Dancers Studio to teach ballet. She trained with Dancers Workshop and Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre in Louisiana and attended summer intensives at School of American Ballet and the Joffrey Ballet. Sarah has a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from the Louisiana State University and also attended Penn State for two-and-a-half years prior to finishing at LSU. Sarah danced professionally with The Georgia Ballet for five seasons from 2005-2010 and has taught various dance styles at many studios throughout the Atlanta Metro area. Sarah is the office administrator at a medical malpractice defense firm in Atlanta and resides in Decatur with her two daughters.
The Dancers Studio is pleased to bring on staff this year a new hip-hop instructor. Known as "Mr. Mikey", Michael is an Atlanta based hip-hop instructor, dancer, and choreographer. He started dancing with childhood friends, who became well established as performers on MTV's America's Best Dance Crew, FOX "So You Think You Can Dance", and NBC's "America's Got Talent". Michael has trained with Jeremy Strong, Dave Scott, Robert Hoffman, and Codie Wiggins to name a few. Along with his training, he has also had the opportunity to perform with a variety of artists including Machine Gun Kelly, Travis Porter, Darth & Vadar. Michael has also been honored to perform on the stage at Hip-Hop International and the Imagine Festival. He has enjoyed being able to give back to the community, by performing on stage for the American Cancer Association, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and more. His main focus and belief is "People change People". He continues to teach his students that their passions can support anything in life.
Mia, born and raised in the Tri-State area of New Jersey, started her dance training at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. In high school, she attended one of the top Performing Arts High Schools in Florida. Mia went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from the University of Florida, receiving a BA in Dance Performance and Choreography. While in college, Mia found a real passion for African Diaspora. Mia later did her research in Havana Cuba on Afro-Cuban dance and it's relation to Black Dance in America. In 2016, she entered the education field and started successful Dance programs in Miami, Bronx, and currently in Atlanta. This fall, Mia will be pursuing her Masters in Business for Creativ Enterprises, from Emerson College to further her career in the Arts field.
Sherry, a former company member with The Dancers Studio, is currently attending Kennesaw State University. Sherry teaches several of our 10 week session classes and assists with recital classes. Sherry has trained in ballet, tap, jazz, and pointe. Sherry is excited to be joining the staff this year, after completing a year of teacher training under Mrs. Brenda, the studio director.
Casey Bramlett is one of our new faculty members, for our 10 week session classes. Casey will be teaching our Diva Cheer Dance classes. She is a former coach, as well as a sideline and competitive cheerleader. During her teens, she cheered with the Georgia Allstars, 2ho were ranked the number 1 gym in the nation. Currently, Casey is a preschool teacher at Marietta First Baptist Church's Center for Early Education. Casey is married to Wesley Bramlett and has a son and 2 daughters, both who are part of The Dancers Studio Performance Company.
